Three Top Dog Walking Spots In Mildura

Dog owners in Mildura are often asking me for location recommendations to walk their dogs, so I thought I'd round up three of my favourites here. If you have any recommendations to add, let me know so I can check them out.

  1. King's Billabong Nature Reserve.

This is my favourite location in all of Mildura; it really deserves an article of its own.

There are several tracks running throughout the reserve, meaning you have different walking options based on how long you want to walk for or based on how you & your dog are feeling. Some tracks are close to the Murray River, some take you past Ducks Foot Lagoon & others will lead you away from both, surrounding you with bushy shrubs, gum trees & native flowers. If you & your dog like to amble, there is plenty of opportunity to do so. There are a couple of bird hides placed strategically to let you enjoy water birds - a good photo opportunity.

Depending on the time of day you & your dog visit, keep in mind that you might see kangaroos, snakes or goannas. This makes it vital that your dog is on lead at all times.

    2. Mildura Riverfront.

A quintessential part of Mildura is the Murray River, and the riverfront area located along Hugh King Drive is a great place to walk your dog.

With three cafes, a water play park for kids (what used to be the Ornamental Lakes), Jaycee Park & the Soundshell plus tables & chairs strategically placed throughout, there are plenty of spots for you to detour from your walk, if you & your dog wish to take a break.

The paths along the riverfront are well maintained & wide, making them accessible for wheelchairs, prams and walkers.

Cross over the lock bridge & you'll find yourself on Lock 11. The paths there are not quite as wide so take care underfoot. There are lots of gum trees to admire on Lock 11, along with birds if you're there at the right time of day & the opportunity to look at the riverfront from another viewpoint.

  1. Apex Park. 580 Cureton Avenue Mildura

Perhaps considered by some an outlier here, Apex Park makes the list because of it's proximity to the riverfront. If you & your dog enjoy a long walk, then adding Apex Park onto your riverfront walk is a great way to get in a few extra kms.

Add to that, if the weather is warm enough you can enjoy a swim in the river. If you & your dog enjoy a quick dip in the river in winter, well who am I to judge? ;)

There are tables & chairs here too; perhaps these could be taken advantage of as the halfway point to enjoy a drink before heading back to the riverfront.

I always recommend walking your dog on a lead. Even the most confident of owner can lose control of their off lead dog if something caputures it's attention or gives it a fright. I believe it is better to be safe than sorry. I

f you have a favourite place to walk your dog, let me know. I'll check it out & I might just add it to my list of walking recommendations.
